Traditional search engines like Google—and their click-heavy results—are giving way to AI-driven interfaces. Tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude generate answers on the fly, often bypassing standard SERPs.

But how often is your brand mentioned by these AI models? How many users reach you via AI-generated responses?

If you're using Wordpress, we have a solution for you.

An AI search analytics plugin

This WordPress plugin records AI search impressions and clicks—from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and other Large Language Models (LLMs).

AI search impressions comes from tracking whenever an AI agent visit your pages to answer user queries or gather training data.

AI search impressions

AI search clicks comes from tracking visits to your website from users, clicking on your mentions/citations in the LLM answer.

Why tracking impressions matters

Google Analytics can track clicks from AI tools if a user clicks a link and lands on your site. But they miss a critical step: the impression that came before the click (GA cannot track AI agents/crawlers).

With tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity, an impression is the equivalent of a mention/citation of your brand in the AI response.

Here’s how AI discovery often works:

  • A user asks an AI tool like ChatGPT about your industry

  • Your brand is mentioned in the answer

  • Sometimes that mention includes a link, sometimes it doesn’t

  • A user might click the link, or they might search for your brand later, or type the URL directly

In many of those cases, Google Analytics will not attribute the click to ChatGPT.

And when no click happens—just brand exposure or a mention—you see nothing at all.

This plugin gives you:

  • A count of how often your brand is seen (not just clicked)

  • Insight into which LLMs are referencing your content

  • A way to monitor what traditional tools leave out

In short: impressions happen before clicks, and most platforms don’t show you that part.

If you care about visibility in AI search, this matter

Caveats on impressions

Tracking AI search impressions/mentions is powerful, but it comes with some limitations:

  • A page being crawled doesn’t always mean it appeared in the final AI answer — this can lead to over-reporting.

  • A single user prompt can cause multiple pages from your site to be crawled — another form of over-reporting.

  • Impressions rely on live crawl logs — if the AI uses a pre-trained response and doesn't run a live search, that activity isn’t detected — under-reporting.

  • If an AI loads a cached version of your page, your tracking script may not fire — another under-reporting scenario.

  • Even if your page was cited, you can’t see how visible it was — was it at the top of the answer, or buried among other sources?

Despite these caveats, impression tracking is key for understanding trends over time:

  • Are your AI mentions going up or down?

  • Are recent content or PR efforts driving more visibility?

  • Is your site becoming more discoverable in AI search?

You may not get a perfect number—but you’ll get a directional signal that helps you adjust and improve.
